Proper wound care management promotes healing by stopping bleeding, absorbing excess secretions and preventing infections. This also helps to minimise scarring.

Current Wound Treatments

The type of wound care used depends heavily on injury type & its size.

Cloth

Cloth dressings are cheap and versatile. From minor injuries such as a cut on the finger to major injuries such as a third-degree burn, they are very common. It is particularly useful on areas with an uneven surface. Due to its flexibility, cloth dressings can conform to the surface of your body.

Foam

As a soft and excellent absorber, foam protects the wound and allows for optimum moisture content by allowing the entrance of water vapour. It comes in a variety of shapes and sizes and just like cloth dressing.

Transparent

Transparent dressings are very useful for wounds that require close monitoring. This allows the doctor to alter medication as necessary. Examples of wounds are surgical incision sites, burns, and ulcers which have a higher risk of complications.

Hydrogel

Hydrogels are applied to dryer wounds. It aids wound healing by adding moisture to the wound. This extra moisture breaks down the dry, dead tissue and helps the wounds to heal faster. If a wound is infected, hydrogels may also be used.
